How to Relieve Shoulder Pain With Chiropractic

The shoulders are designed to carry the arms with little support. There are ligaments, tendons and muscles holding the area in a ball and socket fashion. Unlike the hips and femurs, the shoulder is easier moved in all ranges of motion. This puts great physical stress on the joint which can cause shoulder issues.

The muscles which hold the shoulder are fairly small and stretched in comparison to other joints, therefore they can be more susceptible to dislocating and causing pain. This is the reason the shoulder is one of the most oft injured areas.

Delve deeper into shoulder pain and patients may not even remember the trauma which caused the pain. It could be a very specific trauma such as a car accident or sports injury. Sometimes it is bad ergonomics or repetitive microtrauma.

A chiropractor can examine and look for signs in mobility of the shoulder region to find the problem. Although the arms are used so many times per day, the shoulder can stiffen or cause problems with just a slight trauma. A common problem is the rotator cuff, as this can cause increased pain and needs to be appropriately addressed.

As the shoulders are in close relation to the cervical area, which in turn is part of the spine, shoulder pain may be a secondary problem of spinal misalignment. Using one of our chiropractic evaluations, we can assess, adjust and maintain a common balance for your health. If the bones or alignment is out of alignment, then this can have a poor effect which can cause neck and shoulder symptoms. Headaches are also seen with patients who are misaligned.

Many medical doctors and physicians refer patients towards medications or surgery. Unless there is a tear, this invasive practice or putting medications into your body can further upset the balance. There are so many risks with surgery, which occasionally have problems and medication only masks the pain. Chiropractors use knowledge and specific techniques to find the primary cause of the problem and create a thorough plan to help the body heal.

At The Spinal Correction & Wellness Center, we have properly trained massage therapists and chiropractors who can help not only with the pain but create healing for the body. Correct spinal alignment can control numerous problems ranging from joint pain, muscular pain and internal functional issues. Our patients are advised on correct nutritional needs and are given a roadmap to wellness.

Shoulder pain is often overlooked and not treated. If left for extended periods of time, muscle or ligaments can tear and cause even bigger problems. Using medication to hide the pain, is only effective for a few hours before the next pill is needed. A chiropractor can assess the problem, help correct the alignment of a patient and massage the region back in to good health. Shoulder pain is sometimes a secondary effect of a different problem. It could turn out the neck or vertebrae are at fault but the symptom is felt more in the shoulder itself. It is important to find out what problem has been done and use a chiropractor to help fix it.

What Are The Treatments Options For TMJ Relief

There are several treatments available for TMJ relief. They vary from relaxation techniques to replacement surgery. What treatment works best in completely dependent on the severity of the TMJ and its response. All doctors agree on one point surgery is the very last option after every other option has been explored.

Temporomandibular joint is the full name of TMJ. The symptoms of issues relating to this joint are called Temporomandibular conditions. The pain resulting from these conditions can severely affect daily living and sleep. It can be in the jaw, neck, ears, teeth or cheeks.

A misaligned bite can cause pain with TMJ. This means the top and bottom teeth do not line up when closed. Grinding of teeth causes stress on the joint affecting the surrounding muscles and tissue. These can cause the cartilage in the joint to wear down. Then the bones grind together. If severe enough the joint can dislocate making a clicking noise or a popping sound whenever the mouth is open and closed especially during a yawn. Arthritis can set in this joint as well causing it to painfully swell. This can make it hard to even open the mouth.

TMJ symptoms are most notably the pain and discomfort in the jaw. Headaches can occur. So can pain in the teeth, the neck, and the ears. This can range from mild discomfort to radiating pain. It can be more pronounced in the other areas but start with the jaw pain.

A dentist that is an expert on TMJ is who you would see to get it diagnosed. They will do a thorough exam of your mouth and take x-rays. By doing this they will know what is causing the pain. An over the counter pain reliever can be prescribed as well as a cold or hot face compress. Exercise and vitamins may also help.

To help those who have an issue with clenching and grinding their jaw and teeth a mouth guard may be made. This ensures that the teeth will be unable to grind against each other. A splint can be used by those who are misaligned. It will correct the bite of the mouth. Sometimes it can actually cause more pain and difficulty chewing.

One treatment is jaw exercises designed to help correct clenching and alignment. The doctor will show in the mirror the misalignment and how the face should look when there is no clenching. This requires dedication of practice. If done daily as instructed it will teach you how the face and jaw should feel and look when relaxed. The treatment least recommended is surgery to remove pain. If it is suggested it is recommended a second opinion be sought first. The jaw joints are removed and replaced with implants.

When considering TMJ relief remember to try prevention. Try relaxation exercises as a discipline each day. Be mindful of the state of your mouth, neck, jaw and shoulder and relax them if they are tense. Stay away from chewing gum and hard, chewy foods. Sit properly and get plenty of rest at night.

3 Important Points To Remember If You Want To Quickly Relieve Headaches And Neck Pain

A headache can be debilitating, but when your neck seizes up and you can’t move properly it seems so much worse.

Below are three tips to help you continue with your day.

1. Keep Hydrated – Water is essential to our bodies and the top three signs of dehydration are headaches, dry lips and aching limbs. Water is the best medication, it is free and can do not harm. Try to drink every day, don’t wait for headaches to strike before you remember.

2.Hot And Cold Compacts ” Tension in you neck can cause a headache, equally a headache can cause you to tense up and your neck to become stiff ” the chicken and egg of headaches. Treat your neck as much as you would treat your headache. Try alternating hot and cold compacts to increase the blood flow and loosen the neck muscles.

3.Review Your Lifestyle – Changing your life is a long process, but there is no doubt that headaches are a lifestyle symptom. Headaches can be caused by stress, environmental factors or even by certain foods. It is important to isolate what causes your headaches. A good way to do this is the keep a diary. For every headache you should write down where you where, the environment (hot, cold, office, dinner party, etc) and also what you had eaten that day or the night before. Eventually a pattern will emerge – don’t expect to see this after just a couple of headaches it can take a while.

A headache should not be thought of as a life sentence, it is a symptom of the way you currently lead you life. This is something that you can change with time.

Taking positive steps is important. Once you start to take back control then you may want to look into some of the alternative therapies which are available. Changing your life is always better than medicating your life.

Always bare in mind that a healthy lifestyle and a relaxed and happy mood will help your headaches and neck pains.
