What To Expect On A First Chiropractic Visit

There is sometimes a bit of skepticism that is expressed about chiropractic care and if it works for the treatment of pain. Alternatively, sometimes people believe it works, but do not know if they should take their possible injuries in to be examined. If you haven’t been treated by a chiropractor previously, here is a short explanation of what you can expect when you do make the decision.

If you have been experiencing back pain or you think you may have pulled a muscle, you should consider getting some chiropractic care. This is the best way to find out what is causing your pain and develop a way to treat it. Exploring chiropractic options can help you reduce your need or use for pain medication.

Your first experience with the chiropractor will likely be a very general. You will probably be asked how severe the pain is and what your exact problem is. This is usually followed by an examination. After this, tests may or may not be involved. These are usually very general tests such as x-rays or other tests to show what your range of motion are. The tests performed are not uncomfortable or anything major to be concerned about.

Typically, it isn’t really unusual for a patient to even receive an adjustment on their first visit to the chiropractor. Whether you receive same day treatment or not can depend on the severity of your pain and the cause of the problem. The adjustments might also be arranged for another time. The general point of the first visit is to examine and diagnose.

After diagnosis, your chiropractor will likely want to talk to you about a treatment plan. This will tell you how many adjustments you will need for proper alignment. You might also have different treatments explained to you or be given an estimation of what your recovery time may be.

But chiropractic care is beyond adjustments. There are many other treatments that can be used to ease your pain. You might be given a deep tissue massage or put onto a heating table. These treatments are also sometimes given after adjustments to relieve tension and ease any pain that might come after the proper alignment has been reached.

Often times, people make the mistake of receiving chiropractic care once and then never following up with the rest of the appropriate adjustments and treatments. This is why you sometimes hear of people still experiencing pain after treatment. If you decide to work with a chiropractor for recovery, make sure you go all of the way with your options and treatment plan.

The point of chiropractic treatment is to ease pain and prevent it from worsening or reoccurring. Make sure that you continue your treatment plan after it has been created so that you get the most benefit out of your treatment. It may take some time for you to notice the full results, but you should feel the difference positively as time progresses.

Learning The Chiropractor History From Dr. Jack Martin In St Charles, Illinois

A complete detailed explanation of the history and theory of how Chiropractic and Chiropractor techniques has evolved. Dr Martin is a Chiropractor in St Charles, Illinois, and has a clinic there.

Chiropractic was founded in the 1890’s by Daniel David Palmer. Since this period Chiropractic has been established as a cornerstone in alternative medicine. Daniel David Palmer thinks that every health care profession is relevant and that each can be helpful in its own way. His philosophy is that the treatment of each patient should be based on each persons case, and whichever treatment works best for that patient, is the treatment that should be given regardless of the modality or profession. There are many different philosophies and beliefs of conventional and alternative medicine. I believe that the best health care is a multidisciplinary approach.

However, I have strong beliefs in the Chiropractic adjustment. It is a documented fact that the spinal cord is attached to the brain and makes its way through the vertebral column. From the brain the nerve fibers run through the spinal cord and out the vertebral column as peripheral nerves. The peripheral nerves are attached to all the muscles in the body. The brain will send out signals pertaining to movement and balance to the muscles, and the muscles send information about their orientation in space and the tension of the muscle. Exposing Trauma to the body and everyday movment causes the musculature to compensate. This causes some muscles to activate and become tight and other muscles to be inhibited and loosen. The bones in our body act as a place of attachment sites for muscles. When an injury happens, the muscles “guard” themselves against the injury by tightening. When tightening of the musculature occurs, this can place tension on the bones that are attached and cause pain and discomfort.

The basic belief system and philosophy of the adjustment for the patient, is that misalignments in the spinal column affects the ability to let the body function properly. Adjusting these segments back into their natural alignment will help the body function at its optimal level. It is theorized that this happens through feedback that the muscles will send back and forth to and from the brain. A Chiropractic adjustment will increase the tension that is felt by the muscle tendons in question. Manipulation will cause the receptors to send out a signal to the brain telling the brain that maximal tension has been achieved. The brain then sends a reflexive response to the tendon telling it to relax, there by resetting the muscle length and reducing the spasm in that particular muscle.

In my personal opinion there is no Chiropractic technique that is the best. Again, I believe the technique that should be administered should be based on the patients response to the treatment. The Chiropractic techniques that I can effectively use are the Deerfield technique, States thechnique, Thompson drop and Diversified. Although manipulation is a very important tool in the treatment of patients, I do not believe that it is the end-all be-all of treatments. There are many other treatment modalities that can help a patient to effectively recover from an injury. These treatment modalities include soft tissue massage, interferential therapy, ultrasound, light therapy, flexion distraction, exercises, stretches, vitamin supplementation and proper nutrition. The most effective and efficient treatment incorporates the appropriate combination of these modalities.

1. Begin with the end in mind- Is there something you want to accomplish this year? What do you want? To lose weight? Gain muscle? Make more friends? Have more time with your family? Your goals are yours. Establish goals in all aspects of your life starting with the end in mind. From there you can work backwards. All goals must be measurable and obtainable. Realize right now you will change your life by leaps and bounds when you understand the power of self talk. Your brain only knows what you tell it. You are allowed to fool your brain. For example, tell yourself you are a multi-millionaire.Your brain will believe it. When you modify the words being spoken in your head, you will change your life

3. Record your progress- Would you believe that by writing down everything that goes into your mouth, you will lose 10 pounds this month? Do it and find out what happens. When you set a goal, record every action and effort you make that has an impact on achieving said goal. Successful people keep score. Do you know the score in your life? Play every ace! Chiropractor Missoula-The Road to Wellness: Your Health Article #1-Sleep

Welcome to the first installment of “Your Health.” Please reference our video series on Youtube and also on our website Transformation Chiropractic Missoula, Montana Dr. Shaun Stuto is a Missoula Chiropractor, author, speaker, and the owner/founder of Transformation Chiropractic. The goal of “Your Health” is to explore and dissect many of the different aspects that encompass wellness. “Wellness” is a buzzword that we hear alot on T.V. and in other media. The big question is who is defining what wellness is? The concept of “wellness” is the polar opposite of disease and death. Wellness is at the far end of the spectrum of health and is not necessarily a destination. The concept and goal of wellness is in the journey of achieving it. Think of “wellness” as the point between “excellence” and “perfection.” Excellent health includes many factors such as a balanced lifestyle, low blood pressure, good height:weight ratio low mental stress, healthy diet and an active lifestyle to name a few. The point where excellent health actually becomes perfect cannot be precisely distinguished.

The first aspect of wellness we will explore is sleep. While the nervous system and a well adjusted spine are the single most important aspect of wellness, sleep and nutrition are a tie for second. An optimal functioning nervous system free of disturbance is only made possible through a well adjusted spine. The spine protects the nervous system which is the master controller of the body. As a person becomes stressed physically, chemically or emotionally, this can lead to disturbances in the nervous system that only a chiropractor can detect and correct.

The effects of this type of sleep deprivation are massive. This type of person has no energy. They are irritable and stressed. Often this type of patient is driven to be the perfect worker, the perfect spouse, the perfect parent, the perfect child etc… It is no surprise that this type of person cannot maintain this lifestyle forever. They often develop inexplicable symptoms such as aches and pains. The most common areas of pain show up in the neck and lower back. What is the quickest way to make a person slow down and rest? Low back pain! When the low back goes out, you go down and have to rest. The body has the innate intelligence to know when and how to put you down and force you to rest.

Unless you are an elite athlete training hours/day and burning thousands of calories, you should not need more than 7-9 hours of sleep per night. If you need less than 6 hours see a doctor and if you need more than 9 see a psychologist. It is quite possible that compounding emotional and psychological factors are contributing to your need to sleep so much.

The most important aspect of sleep is your comfort. You must be comfortable in order to maximize your recovery time. With the high stress, high paced lives most of us lead, it is crucial to maximize our time at rest. “Invest in your rest!” I coined the phrase and you should take it to heart. Invest in your rest means spend the money on the highest quality bed you can afford. Most people do best on a firmer mattress.

As your Chiropractor, I personally recommend the Sleep Number bed to ensure your comfort. Remember make price a non-issue. We spend 1/3rd of our lives in bed so we must ensure the highest quality rest possible. The sleep number bed virtually guarantees your comfort because the firmness of the bed is so variable. This is the solution for couples with different mattress preferences. No longer will one person be left to toss and turn. It is so common for households to spend $1000’s on a fancy couch and a flat screen T.V. but want to sneak by with a $300 bed. Does this make sense? No way! Where did you get your bed? Do you remember? How old is it? Do you even know? If you cannot even answer these questions then skip the rest of the article and go order a sleep number bed. Seriously, invest in your rest and do not spend another night on a bed that is hurting you.

You have now heard the essentials of sleep. Ensure you are getting 7-9 hours sleep on the highest quality bed. A sleep deficiency or poor quality of sleep can have devastating effects on a persons body, emotions and overall health. In fact, a poor nights sleep could be leaving you stressed and craving sugar. A lack of quality sleep could actually be making you fat!

Make health and wellness a top priority now. You owe it to yourself. Ensure optimal function of your nervous system by committing to regular chiropractic care. Implement a regular exercise routine and healthier eating habits. Last, get more sleep and a higher quality of sleep through a top quality bed. Aim for 7-9 hours of undisturbed sleep on a consistent schedule each night. Go to bed within 1/2 hour of your scheduled time each night and get up at the same time every day. When you follow this simple plan you will experience unbelievable changes in the way you feel, your energy and your attitude.

Thank you for reading “Your Health.” I am Dr. Shaun Stuto and I wish you a life of abundance.
