Did you know that typically, the pain you are feeling in your back is stemming from swelling or inflammation? You can get rid of the swelling or at least reduce it by applying ice to the area where the pain is most severe. This is by far the most effective way to reduce pain quickly. In fact, it’s why most people prefer to just take over the counter pain killers – pain killers contain anti-inflammatory medicine.
Try to resist taking these anti-inflammatory medicines, because they won’t work as well, and the risk of side effects and costs involved just make it a bad choice. It would be better for you to get used to reducing the swelling using ice, so that your body won’t become accustomed to the over the counter drugs, requiring more and more of the drug over time.
Using a cold compress: To use a cold compress effectively, wrap it in a thin, dry towel and apply it directly to the area that hurts. Leave it there for 15 minutes, then let your skin return back to normal temperatures. This is a good treatment in the morning, before you head off to school or work.
Also try lying on your back, on the floor, for at least 5 minutes with no distractions. This is a great, easy way to alleviate back pain quickly. If you find it difficult to lie flat on your back, then bend your knees, feet flat on the floor, so that your entire back is stretched out and your arch is lying flat against the floor.
You can also stand against the wall, in the same way you were lying on the floor, for 5 minutes. Not only will this relief your back pain, it can also help correct your posture. Poor posture is one of the most common causes of long-term back pain.
